Jaycee Lee Dugard was held captive for 18 years and raped by her captor, Phillip Garrido. He also fathered two daughters with her. Jaycee was the only one to manage to escape from captivity and come home, fortunately. Every day is an exciting journey about new chapters in life: good and bad moments of hope and fear of the unknowns that lie ahead. They say that everything happens for a reason and this means that even at times of trouble is where it all begins. In the book, Vida Roubada, Jaycee Dugard tells about her abduction and the time she spent in captivity from 1991 until 2009. The book talks about the process of healing from sexual abuse and surviving life with her captor. This is a story that I believe everyone should read. JAYCEE LEE DUGARD was born on August 26, 1980 in South Lake Tahoe, California to Terry Probyn and Nancy Garrido. Her father was in the military and stationed at the time in South Lake Tahoe. Jaycee is a very bright student and she loves to sing and dance. Jaycee is a very independent child and she loves going to church with her family. She is a very warmhearted person where she is never shy in trying to make new friends. Her family describes her as a happy, funny, smart, strong-willed young girl who often makes others laugh at their own expense. She loves to spend time with her mother, Nancy Garrido when they would do things like gardening or cooking together. Jaycee is a very talented artist who can draw a masterpiece using a barb-wire fence as her canvas. She is a very creative young girl. In 1991, JAYCEE LEE DUGARD was abducted by Phillip Garrido and two of his family members. Phillip Garrido was an acquaintance to the Dugard family and he volunteered at the local school where Jaycee’s sisters attended. He volunteered as the track coach at their school, Hillside Elementary School, where he met Nancy. According to Nancy, she met Phillip when she came to discuss with him about volunteering for his daughter who was also attending the same school. The Dugards lived in Antioch, California at the time, which is Northern California. Jaycee’s mother Nancy was well acquainted with the Garrido family as well. They had been friends for several years before Jaycee went missing. Nancy regularly went to their house to help with the family’s care for their small kids. When she met Phillip he asked her about her daughter and she told him that his daughter would be attending Hillside Elementary School where Jaycee was enrolled at that time. Phillip introduced himself to Jaycee and they immediately struck up a friendship because of how much they had in common like playing ball together and doing arts and crafts.
